MSI provides personalized contraception and safe abortion care to women and girls in 37 countries around the world.

We’re working tirelessly to expand access to contraception and safe abortion. We strive to offer the widest range of contraceptive methods, safe abortion options and lifesaving care for women forced to turn to unsafe abortions. Our services give a woman the power to choose whether and when she has children so she can pursue her dreams for herself and her family.

MSI’s Service Delivery Channels

MSI began providing services in 1976, from established centers in towns and cities. Since then, we’ve expanded our delivery model to ensure we can reach as many women as possible where and when they need us.

Each of our six service channels offer the same high-quality, client-focused care. We keep our clients at the center of everything we do, striving to understand their unique challenges and meet their needs.

Centers

Centers

We’ve grown from a single center in London to over 600 centers located across 37 countries worldwide. Centers are the backbone of our operations. We put a lot of thought into their location, design and the way they are run so that the clients who visit are comfortable from the moment they walk through our blue door.

Outreach

Outreach

Our hundreds of outreach teams bring reproductive health services to some of the world’s most hard-to-reach communities. We travel using whatever means necessary to reach people – from planes in Papua New Guinea, to tuk-tuks in Tanzania, to boats in Bangladesh – to provide reproductive healthcare services in rural and remote communities.

MS Ladies

MS Ladies

MS Ladies are mobile midwives and nurses, visiting clients in their homes or working in the community. Their discretion and flexibility help us reach women and adolescents who otherwise couldn’t access contraceptive services due to stigma and other barriers.

Public Sector Strengthening

Public Sector Strengthening

We train and support public sector workers already working in government-run health services in urban and remote rural communities. By partnering with Ministries of Health, we reach more women with accessible, affordable and high-quality contraception and safe abortion, and improve the skills and knowledge of health workers.

Commercial Sales

Commercial Sales

This channel, formerly known as social marketing, distributes our own brands of quality contraception and abortion pills, where legal, through pharmacies, community-based distributors and other private outlets. Our commercial sales channel brings contraception and safe abortion closer to client we do not reach through other channels.

We have more than 600 centers located across 37 countries worldwide. These centers set the standard for our services in each program, so we put a lot of thought into their location, design and the way they are run. Above all, we want to be sure that the women who visit our centers feel at ease and as comfortable as possible from the moment they walk through our blue door.

Our Global Impact

Our work saves and transforms women’s lives and changes the world. By bringing contraception to women who want it, we prevent and reduce injury and deaths from unplanned pregnancies and unsafe abortions. We work to reduce stigma and other barriers that prevent women from accessing contraception and safe abortion services.

We help girls to finish school, enable women to earn a living and take better care of themselves and their families. Our work helps to reduce poverty and build climate resilient communities.

Our Global Strategy

Right now, there are 214 million women who want to use contraception but can’t access it. Worldwide, 25 million unsafe abortions occur each year. That’s why we’re challenging ourselves to go further and provide services to even more women, adolescent girls and communities.

Here’s how we’re going further for women:

We’re working to eliminate unsafe abortion by 2025

Every year, 22,000 women die from unsafe abortion and millions more are seriously injured. But by removing restrictions and expanding access to contraception and safe abortion, we can eliminate unsafe abortion.

We’re committed to sustainability

We’re a social enterprise, self-generating 40% of our revenue in 2018. But we also need the support of many donors to ensure we will be able to serve the rapidly growing numbers of young people who need services, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. The Global Gag Rule ended our funding from the US Government in 2017 and increased our need for support from individual donors in the United States and around the world. We plan to be there for the women who depend on us long-term.

We’re passionate about data

We obsessively track service delivery performance and go where the evidence leads. By capturing new and better data, we can understand what works and stop doing what doesn’t, so our providers can optimize their services and reach even more women.

We’re leaving no woman, girl or community behind

Our commitment to quality and to our clients is at the heart of everything we do. By focusing relentlessly on clinical quality and client-centered care, we set standards and influence practices in the wider community. We are courageous and passionate about our work, challenging stigma and striving to improve the way reproductive healthcare is provided.

Help us reach our goal

Make a change

Join our mission to offer choice to millions of women and girls worldwide. Help provide reproductive health care to the world’s most vulnerable women and girls.
